Farm Bureau to donate food to Ronald McDonald Houses on Feb. 18
February 15, 2013
On Monday, February 18, Oregon Farm Bureau members will donate more than $1,500 worth of nutritious food to local Ronald McDonald House Charities in recognition of Food Check-Out Week.
Farm Bureau’s Food Check-Out Week, Feb. 17-23, 2013, is devoted to helping teach Americans how to stretch their grocery dollars with healthy, nutritious food. While America’s farmers and ranchers are committed to producing safe, healthy food, they share with consumers the same issues of putting nutritious meals on the table while sticking to a tight budget.

Images for the 2014 calendar are being sought. Farm Bureau invites the public to submit their own photos of Oregon agriculture: the commodities, the families, the production, the landscape, the retail, anything that depicts the beauty, technology, culture, or tradition of farming and ranching.

OFB’s Liskey featured at Harvesting Clean Energy Conference
January 18, 2013
Oregon Farm Bureau 1st Vice President Tracey Liskey, a cattle rancher from Klamath Falls, will be a featured moderator at the 12th annual Harvesting Clean Energy Conference, Jan. 27-29 at the Oregon State University Conference Center.

Liskey will moderate a panel of recipients of the Harvesting Clean Energy Ag-Forestry Innovator of the Year Award. These are rural Northwest innovators who are harvesting a full range of clean energy resources, from energy efficiency to renewable power and biofuels. The farmers are building a long-term integrated energy strategy to control costs, manage risk, and benefit the bottom line.

Oregon farmer is finalist for national ag spokesperson role
November 15, 2012

Vote for Brenda, an Oregon family farmer!

The U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance (USFRA), a major national coalition effort involving American Farm Bureau, commodity groups, and others in the ag community, has launched its Faces of Farming and Ranching program with a national search for ag spokespeople. More than 120 farmers and ranchers from around the country applied to become a national “Face of Farming & Ranching.”

From that group, Oregon Farm Bureau volunteer leader and St. Paul farmer Brenda Kirsch was named one of nine finalists. Brenda was flown to New York for an official announcement on Nov. 15.

Farm Bureau releases 2012 Election Guide

The 2012 ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 1, at 1:00 p.m. at the Oregon State Fair. The public recognition ceremony and awards celebration will be held in the Corporate Tent on the west side of the fairgrounds. Government Regs, Land Availability Concern Young Farmers

Oregon’s The latest survey of participants in the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers & Ranchers program shows an even split when it comes to concerns about top challenges they face today. A total of 21 percent of young farmers surveyed ranked burdensome government regulations and “red tape” as a top concern; an additional 21 percent cited securing adequate land to grow crops and raise livestock as their top challenge today.

Barry Bushue re-elected Vice President of American Farm Bureau, President of Oregon Farm Bureau

On January 11, Oregon Farm Bureau President Barry Bushue was unanimously re-elected to a third two-year term as Vice President of the American Farm Bureau Federation by delegates attending the national organization’s 93rd annual meeting in Honolulu.
And in December 2011, Bushue was re-elected to a seventh two-year term as Oregon Farm Bureau President during OFB’s 79th annual meeting in Pendleton.

Oregon Century Farm & Ranch Program Seeks Oregon Families Who Worked Land for at Least 100 Years
March 10, 2011
Applications are now being accepted for the 2011 award year of the Oregon Century Farm & Ranch Program, a statewide recognition program honoring farmers and ranchers who have worked the same land for at least 100 years. Applications are also available for the Sesquicentennial Award, introduced by the program in 2008, honoring families with farms or ranches continuously worked for 150 years or more. To date, 1,117 families have formally received the Century designation and 22 families have received the Sesquicentennial Award.
