Though women are actively involved in every facet of the Oregon Farm Bureau, many choose to also participate in the Women's Advisory Council. The council plays an important role in helping to raise awareness and funds for OFB programs that focus on health, safety, education, and the betterment of rural communities. The Council also provides leadership and other training opportunities for Farm Bureau members.
The Women's Advisory Council has a significant presence each spring at Oregon Ag-Fest, a multi-day, family-oriented celebration of the modern family farm held at the State Fairgrounds in Salem. The council leads Oregon Farm Bureau's efforts to promote Food Check-Out Day (the day recognized as when the typical American family has earned enough to pay for all of its grocery, prepared foods, and restaurant costs for the whole year), and national agriculture week.
The council has an ongoing supporting relationship with Oregon's three Ronald McDonald Houses, which are stand-alone charitable organizations separate from the restaurant company. Ronald McDonald Houses provide a home away from home for the families of children receiving medical treatment for life-threatening illness or injury. The Houses provide low- or no-cost housing and meals for these families; most of those in greatest need come from Oregon's most rural counties, which are typically farthest away from the state's major medical facilities.
One of the Women Advisory Council's most renowned fundraising events is a live and silent auction during Oregon Farm Bureau's annual meeting. Money earned at this event is contributed to scholarship funds, educational efforts, and leadership development programs.
