Young Farmers & Ranchers Program

The Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) program provides a unique opportunity for young people, ages 16 to 35, to develop leadership abilities, learn new skills, socialize, and share ideas with their peers in the agriculture industry.

There are many opportunities for the next farming generation to be recognized for innovative work in and out of the field. For example, the YF&R Achievement Awards judge the operating efficiency of young farmers and ranchers based on their leadership, creativity, and proven business success.

An annual YF&R Discussion Meet is a competition where participants are judged on their ability to express ideas and opinions on significant issues facing agriculture today. Winners of these competitions at the state level win cash and a trip to the national competitions. Prizes for national winners include savings bonds, cellular phones, a one-year use of a Case IH tractor, and free Dodge pickups. OFB has produced winners in both of these national competitions in recent years.

Oregon YF&R also sponsors FFA tractor operator contests each year at local and state levels and participates in a wide range of community and ag-related events.

For more information about Oregon’s YF&R, contact program coordinator Amber McKinney or call her at (503) 399-1701, ext. 314.

To learn more information about the program on a national level, visit the American Farm Bureau’s YF&R site.
