Put your skills to the test with YF&R
Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) is a great way for ag producers between the ages of 18 and 35 to get involved in Farm Bureau, gain leadership and communication skills, and have a lot of fun with peers from Oregon and around the country.
To recognize the best and the brightest young producers in Oregon, three statewide YF&R contests are offered this year: the Discussion Meet, Achievement Award, and Excellence in Agriculture Award.
> The Discussion Meet is designed to showcase effective communication within a group, much like the meetings that are the backbone of Farm Bureau’s grassroots network. Contestants will be evaluated on the exchange of ideas and information on pre-determined topics, which are available on oregonfb.org.
The 2013 Discussion Meet will be held during the OFB Annual meeting in Bend in December. The winner will receive a prize and get the chance to compete at the national level during the AFBF Annual Meeting in San Antonio in January 2014.
> The Achievement Award is open to young ag producers (individual or couple) who actively farm or ranch and earn most of their income from production agriculture. It recognizes farming operation growth, financial progress, and leadership experience in and outside of YF&R and Farm Bureau.
> The Excellence in Agriculture Award recognizes young farmers and ranchers (individuals or couples) who are actively engaged in Farm Bureau and their community. Participants are judged on involvement in agriculture, leadership, and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations (civic, service, and community). The majority of their income does not have to come from production agriculture.
Both the Achievement Award and Excellence in Agriculture Award recipients will be announced during the 2013 OFB Annual Meeting in Bend. The winners will receive a prize and get the chance to compete at the national level during the AFBF Annual Meeting in San Antonio in January 2014.
The 2014 deadlines to apply for all three competitions will be announced this summer.
For application information, contact YF&R’s program coordinator Dennis Myhrum at firstname.lastname@example.org, (541) 377-2362.
Winners of the state competitions will have the chance to continue to the national competitions during the AFBF Annual Meeting in San Antonio in January 2014. Winners of the national competitions will have a choice of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado or a 2014 GMC Sierra pickup valued at $35,000. In addition, they will receive a paid registration for the 2014 YF&R Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach.
Three finalists in Achievement Award, Discussion Meet and Excellence in Ag will receive a Farmall Tractor from Case IH and a $2,500 cash prize and $500 in STIHL merchandise from STIHL.
