ODA recruiting for 58 commodity commissioner openings; Apply by April 20

The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is seeking applicants to fill 58 commissioner seats on 22 of the state’s agricultural and commercial fisheries commodity commissions.

The deadline to apply is April 20th, 2026.

For instructions on how to apply or to learn more about the commissions, please visit the Commodity Commissions website.

The Director of ODA appoints commissioners. Once selected, commissioners serve as public officials, and most serve three‑year terms. Their responsibilities include making decisions about funding for promotion, education, and research projects. The Director is seeking applicants who reflect the diversity among Oregon’s farmers, ranchers, processors, and commercial fisheries.

Public members must be U.S. citizens, Oregon residents, and have an active interest in improving the economic conditions of the commodity. They may not be directly associated with producing or handling the commodity they wish to represent.

Producers and handlers must also be U.S. citizens and Oregon residents, and must have paid or collected the assessment for that commodity for the previous three years (or longer in some cases). A producer is defined as a grower or harvester. A handler is the first to purchase the commodity from the producer and is often a processor, distributor, or marketer.
